    Welcome!
I would have ideas but expect for Brad.
  2. The two screws are just to attach the metallic assemblage to the frame. The pollex screws should tighten the plate against the shaft plenty to go along it from swiveling. If it does not, at that place is enough habiliment inside the frame to go along it from providing enough friction. I would wrap something around the metallic shaft to encounter if that will do the trick. You probably volition not have enough room to wrap the unabridged shaft unless the rubber is very thin merely a slice in between the shaft and the locking plate might be enough to practise the fox. Be sure that everything is clean and dry. You don't desire any of the oil you used to become in effectually the shaft and locking machinery.
  3. Hi verybrad

cheers for the quick reply and info . I miss spoke when i said i removed the screws - its was he pollex screws i removed . Your reply suggests i wrap something around the metal shaft - not sure how to get at that as it would need to be inside the assemblage where the thumb screw used to tighten down to .

My other thought was to simply put a pocket-size weight at the bottom on the back of the mirror to let gravity strength it to stay down if i couldn't actually ready it - hope that is not blasphemy on this site lol I am a fan of playing golf with hickory shafted clubs from the pre 1930'south era and adjusting the swing weight with lilliputian lead tape is a common exercise - and necessity - to make them playable .

I would rather fix the problem with the mirror though . To remove the shaft do i need to remove the entire assemblage ? The back of the mirror has a wooden back that looks similar it can be removed with just i screw - at the lesser . Whatsoever take a chance the shaft pops out from at that place ? thanks , Jim

  4. Might help if you show the underside of the pollex screw associates (removed from the frame), and how the frame looks with that associates removed.
  5. I take NO thought if this is the same issue I had with a like piece, only I "solved" information technology past putting a tiny wad of paper in the thumbscrew hole earlier replacing the thumbscrew (by which I mean putting the original thumbscrew back into the intended "hole").

It appeared that the screw was a tad curt because the metal fitting had shifted/lifted over the decades............

  6. I'd similar to see a photograph of the whole thing.
  7. If you unscrew the thumb screw, it looks like the plate it is attached to should hinge upward to release the shaft.
  8. Hi All
cheers for the nifty advice and ideas . I will post few more pics and effort a few options , jim
